Replacing bulbs in chandeliers, pendants and wall sconces should preserve the fixture's appearance while delivering suitable light. For wholesale buyers, the right choice starts with a clear specification and a sample tested in the actual fitting.
1. Confirm the Base and Electrical Rating
Identify the exact base, such as G4, G9, E12 or E14, from the existing lamp and fixture documentation. Similar-looking bases are not automatically interchangeable. Match the replacement's rated voltage and AC/DC requirements to the fixture supply.
If the fitting uses a transformer, confirm compatibility with the specific LED lamp and installed lamp quantity. A bulb that fits the socket is only the starting point.
2. Check Size and Visible Appearance
Measure overall length, diameter and the space inside the shade. LED replacements may be larger than the original halogen capsule. Check that the cover closes correctly and the lamp does not interfere with decorative parts.
| Fixture style | What to check |
|---|---|
| Crystal chandelier | Compact dimensions, light distribution and the appearance of the lamp through the crystals. |
| Exposed pendant | Bulb shape, finish and brightness when viewed from normal seating positions. |
| Shaded wall sconce | Clearance inside the shade and suitability for the fixture's enclosure conditions. |
3. Choose Lumens, Color Temperature and CRI
Compare lumens for light output and watts for power consumption. Assess brightness with all lamps installed; shades and crystals can change how the light reaches the room.
2700K-3000K is a useful starting point for a warm decorative effect. Match the intended room atmosphere and keep color temperature consistent across visible lamps.
Compare CRI 80-90 options against the project brief. CRI describes color fidelity, not brightness. Evaluate samples beside the actual fabrics, finishes and furnishings.
4. Verify Dimming and Operating Conditions
For adjustable lighting, select a lamp specified as dimmable and verify the complete lamp, dimmer and transformer combination where applicable. Test startup, the usable dimming range, visible flicker and audible noise with the intended lamp count.
For fully enclosed fittings, use lamps explicitly approved for that application. Check the manufacturer's operating-temperature limits and installation instructions.
5. Approve Samples Before a Bulk Order
- Record the approved base, voltage, dimensions, lumens, color temperature, CRI and dimming requirements.
- Test samples in representative fixtures and review the light appearance at normal viewing distances.
- Confirm model-specific documentation for the destination market, packaging, warranty and replacement-stock arrangements.
